Tudor City Greens, Inc. (the Greens) is a New York 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to preserve and enhance Tudor City’s two landmarked parks. The parks are located on Tudor City Place, east of Second Avenue between East 41st and 43rd Streets. The Greens was formed in 1987 to assume ownership and responsibility for the parks, under the auspices of The Trust for Public Land, when Tudor City buildings were being converted to cooperative ownership by the sponsor, Time Equities.
The parks are a focal point for the community and actively used by residents and Tudor City neighbors alike. While they are privately owned, the parks are open to the public each day from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. They have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places and are part of the Tudor City Historic District, which was designated by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1988.
The Greens Board of Directors is made up of residents appointed by each of the cooperative buildings in Tudor City, as well as representatives from the Tudor City Association and the sponsor, Time Equities. Additionally, At-large Directors may be appointed by the Board. All Board members serve on a volunteer basis.
The gardens are maintained by a landscape gardening foreman, a groundskeeper and a caretaker. Their work is supplemented by Greens volunteers who undertake needed gardening tasks on a weekly basis. Independent contractors are called upon as needed.
In addition to caring for the parks, the Board is charged with providing recreational and cultural programs for the benefit of Tudor City residents and the public. It annually hosts summer evening concerts, Christmas Tree and Hanukkah Menorah lighting ceremonies, holiday celebrations for children who reside in Tudor City and other special events.
We welcome you to our parks and hope you enjoy your visit.
